Out Of Love

Tim Worden

The statement I'm about to make may shock some of you. It may even make some angry. I hope not, because my intention is not to convince you to turn your back on anything you hold dear or sacred. I am simply sharing my heart...and wondering how many of you can relate...

I don't like church.

Let me clarify...I LOVE "The Church" as in the "Body of Christ"...His people...His bride. A person cannot be a follower of Christ and hate what He loves. I am not questioning my faith in the person and deity of Christ. Outside of a sovereign, omniscient, loving God...life does not make sense.

What I am confessing is that I don't like church " the institution". The corporation. The routine.

I struggle on Sunday mornings when I drive past children in my neighborhood riding their bikes while parents that I haven't had time to meet are looking on from their driveways.

I wonder how we can continue to invest so much and get so little in return.

Where are all the changed lives?

Where are all the new disciples?

If Jesus of Nazareth walked into church next Sunday, would He recognize it?

I want a revolution.

Amos 5:21-27

21 “I hate all your show and pretense—
the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies.
22 I will not accept your burnt offerings and grain offerings.
I won’t even notice all your choice peace offerings.
23 Away with your noisy hymns of praise!
I will not listen to the music of your harps.
24 Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice,
an endless river of righteous living.
